Audacity play track while recording
These are the options that my version of Audacity gives me. When you click you hear the tracks mixed together, that is, all the tracks at the same time. You can record into these tracks, or generate sound into them using the Generate menu. These new tracks stack up one above the other.

In the bottom left hand corner is an option to load presets. You can add new empty tracks using the edit menu: Click on the image to learn more. By going to the menu at the top of the screen, you will find the Effects tab This will open a pull down menu where you will find ReverbĬlicking on the Reverb will open a box. Before you start recording in Audacity while the track can playing, to must first perform sure that overdubbing is enabled. You can now adjust the volume levels of each track by looking to the left of the selected track and moving the volume slider left or right. As you play, you can see the blue sound wave appear as you play. Once you hit the record button, another "empty" track will open underneath your imported track. Then you wait for the track to be imported. So the way it works is, the audio comes-in at a constant rate. The first step is for bring to backing track to Audacity. Windows is a multitasking operating system, and it’s always doing stuff in the background (including checking for mouse movements & updating the display, etc. As you can see, mine are in My Music (Windows 7) Usually this is related to the CPU (and databus, hard drive, etc.) being busy doing something else while you are recording.

Now you need to know where your backing tracks are stored. A sound will go to your headphones a beat late after you play it. I would expect that pathway to have a delay in it. Then drop down to Import and slide across to Audio Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording: X Playthrough (select) If Audacity points to a valid sound playback device (speakers, headphones), that should do it. To play existing tracks while recording, Transport > Transport Options > Overdub. audacity won’t play imported track when recording. I don't know if this will help or hinder people trying to use Audacity, but here is a photo list of how to do it.įirst open Audacity, then go to File in the top left hand corner I have exhausted the suggestions on the internet, and that is why I’m here asking this question.
